Thomas C. McClenaghan, Special Agent in Charge of the Albuquerque Division of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced that Alex Barrera, age 36, of Roswell, New Mexico was arrested on a federal warrant charging him with violation of Title 18, United States Code Section 912 in connection with his knowingly and intentionally impersonating an FBI agent for the purpose of gaining personal information with regard to one Jorge Jaramillo.

SAC McClenaghan disclosed that as soon as Roswell Resident Agency Special Agents of the FBI were alerted that Barrera was impersonating an FBI Agent he was contacted and was invited to the FBI Office in Roswell to discuss the situation. During the course of the interview, Barrera admitted to presenting himself as a Special Agent of the FBI for the purpose of obtaining personal information with regard to one Jorge Jaramillo. The results of the interview were then presented to the United States Attorney of New Mexico who in turn authorized the filing of a criminal complaint and the arrest of Barrera.

On 3/19/07, Barrera was taken before United States Magistrate Kea Riggs in Roswell for his Initial Appearance. Following his Initial Appearance proceedings, Barrera was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal Service while awaiting a preliminary hearing and detention hearing scheduled for 3/21/07 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
