The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Corps Watch is offering a reward of up to $10,000 with regard to information which would lead to the prosecution and conviction of the two assailants that were responsible for the assault on United States Army Corp of Engineers Park Ranger, Alfred J. Chavez, of El Rito, New Mexico. Chavez sustained a gunshot wound to the leg when he encountered two suspects who were believed to be breaking into a Corps-owned pump house near Abiquiu Dam. Chavez was medivaced to University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH) for treatment. Chavez is presently resting at home while he recovers from his injuries. The suspects are described as follows: Suspect #1 - White or Hispanic male, early to mid 20’s in age, 5’5” to 5’6” inches tall, 130 to 150 pounds, thin build, black hair worn closely cut on sides but long on top, facial stubble, Greenish or black highlighted large size unknown tattoo on neck area (not further described), wearing baggy khaki pants, black shirt, extremely oversized baggy zip front jacket, black framed revolver. Suspect #2 – White or Hispanic male, late teens to early 20’s, 5’7” to 5’8” inches tall, approximately 200 pounds, heavy build, light brown hair worn short, light colored mustache, colored tattoo worn on left forearm, wore baggy pants and short sleeved shirt. The suspects were last seen making their escape from the area in a late model (1990’s version) Ford F-250 two door white pickup with tinted windows, door foot access rails and chrome rims. The vehicle was further described as having body damage on the passenger side tailgate area.
